What the arithmetic on this site implies

Said once, plainly

The bonus page exists to turn a percentage into a number of stakes, and the numbers it produces are large: a requirement of a hundred and forty times a deposit is not an error and not a trick. It is what the terms say, working normally. Every game behind every one of these cashiers is priced so that staking costs money on average, and the roulette page shows the whole mechanism in one pocket: eighteen out of thirty-seven, not eighteen out of thirty-six. About this register.

Nothing on this site is a strategy, and nothing here suggests any of it can be played at a profit. A register that measured how legible the small print is would be dishonest to then imply the small print can be beaten.

Four settings worth using

Before a first deposit, not after
  1. 01
A deposit limitSet it at the cashier before depositing. A limit set in advance is a decision; a limit set afterwards is a reaction.
  2. 02
A session reminderA clock in a lobby is the operator's, not yours. A reminder from outside the tab is worth more than one inside it.
  3. 03
A cooling-off periodMost cashiers offer a pause of a day or a week. It is a setting rather than a request, and it takes effect immediately.
  4. 04
Self-exclusionA longer lock, usually six months or more, that cannot be undone early. That is the point of it.
03

What a limit stops, and what it does not

The limit sits at one cashier

A deposit limit is a real control and worth setting, but it is worth knowing exactly how far it reaches. It applies to one account at one cashier. It does not apply to the second cashier, it does not apply to the exchange that sold the coin, and it does not apply to a wallet that already has a balance sitting in it. Twelve records on this site means twelve separate limits, each set separately, and none of them knows about the others. Shuffle: what is written down.

A loss limit and a deposit limit are also not the same instrument. A deposit limit caps what goes in; a loss limit caps what the session is allowed to take before it stops. A cashier that offers only the first has left the more useful one out, and which of the two an operator offers is written in its own responsible-play settings rather than in its terms. Verification: what the clauses actually say.

The route makes the money harder to see

Four legs, one of them a currency

This is the part of the subject that belongs to this site specifically. A deposit from here is not one movement of money: it is a bank transfer, a purchase at an exchange, a transfer across a network and then a balance. By the time a figure appears in a cashier it has stopped being lira, and a balance that is not in your own currency is much harder to hold in your head as an amount of money.

The practical suggestion is simple and costs nothing: write down what left the bank account, in lira, before any of it becomes a coin. That figure is the one that matters, it is the only one of the four legs that is denominated in the money you actually earn, and it is the number the rest of the route is very good at obscuring. The fees on the middle two legs belong in the same note, because they are paid again on the way back out.

If you are reading this for somebody else

It is an ordinary reason to be here

Yeşilay's counselling is open to family members as well as to the person gambling, and the conversation does not require the other person's agreement or even their knowledge. That is worth saying because the most common reason people wait is the belief that nothing can be done until the person concerned asks for help, and it is not true.

Two practical things, neither of which requires a confrontation. Money in a shared account is reachable by anybody who can reach the account, and a lending arrangement between family members almost always extends the problem rather than ending it — the sum moves, the situation does not. Both are ordinary subjects for the same free conversation.

Signs worth taking seriously

None of them are unusual
  • Staking money set aside for something else.
  • Playing to recover a loss rather than because you wanted to play.
  • Hiding the amount, the time or the fact of it from people close to you.
  • Borrowing to keep going, in any form, including from a card.
  • Feeling worse after a session regardless of the result.

Where to get help in Turkey

Free and confidential

Yeşilay runs free and confidential counselling and can be reached by anybody, including family members of someone who is gambling: Yeşilay — Danışmanlık. Talking to a doctor is also an ordinary and useful step; this is a recognised condition with recognised treatment, and it is treated more effectively earlier.
